My Brothers Wedding - The Best Man

It is time to start thinking about my toast to my brother on his big day.... I am not sure which direction I want to go with my toast, if I want to have everyone laughing or crying or a little bit of both.

Unfortunately, my grandparents from Boston will not be there...Sal (grandpa DiFonzo) has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, not sure all the details, which we will get on Thursday, but regardless they will not be in attendance.

I think the most important thing to touch on in my toast is family. My dad is a huge family guy, and family is always first. I feel that this is his greatest attribute that he has passed on to my brother. And, Hannah is just the same, coming from a large family with all of them living in the same area, and being around each other, Michael should get a great sense of his ever expanding family.

I think Michael has come along way as a man, starting out as a quite kid in glasses, to growing into an outgoing avid concert attendee, fraternity member and outside sales rep (which I am still not sure is his calling...) Hannah, who I have come to find out is a very strong woman, with passionate feelings on everything you can imagine including sports, religion, family, and careers.

The two of them compliment each other, and this brings me to where I think my toast is going to go....

Most people tend to generalize personalities, by saying someone is introverted or extroverted, or a type A personality, and so on...I feel we are each a unique blend of the people in our lives that have the greatest influences on us, and with those influences we take what we learn from them and apply that to our daily existence.

I want to touch on the traits that Michael inherited from our parents, and the new found characteristics he is growing with Hannah. Competitive spirit, honesty and integrity, and family values from dad. Inquisitive and perceptive mind, compassionate and caring, and sharp wit from mom. But I have noticed a new personality trait in him since his engagemet to Hannah and it is no surprise. Michael has a better understanding of responsibility, and a calmness that comes with a new found confidence driving him to succeed and make an impact.

I think this will help me to gather my thoughts on how I want to finish my toast, something like, May you continue to nurture each others potential, accept each others criticisms, overlook each others flaws, and fulfill one another needs.

To you Mike and Hannah, we wish you a long and happy life together! Salud.
